Why you show up for your business name but not “plumber near me”

A name search points Google at one known business. A service search compares every plausible nearby option using relevance, distance, and prominence.

Why you show up for your business name but not “plumber near me”

Your name is the easy query

When someone searches the exact business name, Google has a narrow identification job. The phone, website, reviews, and other references usually point to one entity. Showing for that search proves the profile can be found; it does not prove the business competes for a broad service search.

“Plumber near me” asks Google to compare plumbers near the searcher. Google says local results mainly use relevance, distance, and prominence. A verified company can lose that comparison even though its name search works perfectly.

Check the result from where customers live

Search results change with location, so do not use one result beside the shop as the score. Check the same service from several fixed points across the real service area. A map grid makes the pattern easier to see: strong near the base, weak across town, or missing everywhere.

If the business is absent everywhere, inspect categories, eligibility, services, verification, website support, and conflicting business information. If it fades with distance, the problem may be geography rather than a broken listing.

Make the service match clear

Use the category that best describes the core work, list services the crew actually performs, keep hours and contact details accurate, and support important services with useful website pages. Ask completed customers for honest reviews without coaching the wording.

Do not add “plumber near me” to the business name unless those words are part of the real name used in the world. A spammy name may produce a temporary bump and create a policy problem later.
