Read the map without a marketing degree

A monthly map report should show where you appear, not hide the work

One search beside the office is not a report. Check the same service across the area, compare it with last month, and connect the movement to real calls.

Ask about my listing

The direct answer

The grid shows visibility from the customer’s side of town.

Google Maps results change with the searcher’s location. A map-grid report repeats one service search from a fixed set of points across the market, which exposes the difference between strong visibility near the business and weak visibility farther away.

Read the pattern, not one square. Then compare that pattern with completed listing and website work, review growth, call sources, estimates, and jobs won. Rankings alone do not pay an invoice.

What belongs in the report

A useful report fixes the service, area, grid, and dates so the comparison means something.

  • Search phrase tied to profitable work
  • Named geographic area and grid points
  • Prior and current visibility
  • Reviews and meaningful profile changes
  • Work completed during the period
  • Next action based on the pattern

What the colors cannot tell you

A stronger map does not reveal whether the phone was answered, the caller fit the service area, an estimate was booked, or the job made money. Track those outcomes in the business’s call log or job system.

Questions to ask about movement

Did visibility change around the business or across the full area? Did the same service improve, or did the report switch phrases? Did reviews, categories, hours, website pages, or competitors change? A report should let you challenge the conclusion.

Why not search from my own phone?+

Your location, history, and proximity can produce a flattering result that does not represent customers across the service area.

What does a map grid show?+

It checks the same search from several geographic points, showing where the business appears strongly, weakly, or not at all.

Does a green map prove I got more jobs?+

No. Visibility is one part of the path. Compare it with calls, estimates, won work, and job value.

Can rankings move backward?+

Yes. Competitors, proximity, profile changes, reviews, Google updates, and market conditions can all change local results.
