Google My Business, Google Business Profile, and your Google listing: same thing?
Google My Business is the former product name. Google Business Profile is the current name; owners often call the customer-facing result a Google listing.
Three names, one working profile
Google My Business, often shortened to GMB, was the old product name. Google now calls the product Google Business Profile. Google’s own Ads help describes Business Profile as the product for creating and managing free business listings in Maps and notes that it was formerly known as Google My Business or Google Places.
Owners and customers rarely need the product-history lesson. “Google listing” usually means the information, photos, reviews, and call actions that appear for the business in Search and Maps.
What you can manage
An eligible business can claim and verify the profile, then manage its name, category, location or service area, hours, phone, website, services, photos, posts, and review responses. The exact features vary by business type and region.
Google does not charge to own or maintain the profile. A business pays a third party for time, judgment, content, tracking, and recurring management, not for access to a secret paid listing.
Use the words customers understand
Inside an account or policy discussion, “Business Profile” is precise. In a conversation with an HVAC or plumbing owner, “your Google listing” is usually clearer. Local SEO is the broader field around the listing, website, reviews, links, and business mentions.
The label does not change the job: keep the business information accurate, make the service match clear, publish real proof, ask fairly for reviews, and retain ownership.
