Service-area privacy

Hide your home address on Google without hiding the business

If customers don’t visit the address, remove it from public display and list the real areas your crew serves.

The direct answer

A home-based contractor usually needs a service-area profile.

Google distinguishes businesses that receive customers at a staffed location from businesses that travel to customers. If no customer can walk in during the listed hours, hide the address and use service areas. Google still keeps the underlying address for verification.

Choose cities, postal codes, or other accepted areas that match where the crew actually takes work. Service areas help customers understand coverage; they do not make the listing rank throughout every place selected.

Storefront, service area, or hybrid?

A storefront receives customers at a permanent, staffed, signed location. A service-area business travels to customers and hides its address. A hybrid business does both. Pick the setup that matches an ordinary workday, not the setup that looks best in search.

Choose a service area the crew can serve

Start with profitable drive times, licensing boundaries, dispatch coverage, and the jobs you accept. Google says the overall area should generally stay within roughly two hours of the business base.

  • Use places customers recognize
  • Remove towns the office routinely declines
  • Keep the same coverage language on the website
  • Review the list when crews or service lines change

Keep the address consistent behind the scenes

Use the real operating address for verification and business records, even when it stays hidden from customers. Don’t borrow an employee address, rent a mailbox, or place a pin at an address the business does not control.

Call or text (509) 557-0797 if your situation doesn’t fit these answers.

Will hiding my address hurt my listing?+

A service-area business should hide an address where customers are not received. Hiding it does not create a penalty; it makes the profile match the business model.

Can I use a virtual office instead?+

No. An unstaffed virtual office does not qualify as a customer-facing location under Google’s rules.

How many service areas can I add?+

Google currently allows up to 20 named service areas. Choose places the crew can routinely serve rather than every town in the state.

Can I show my home address if I have a sign?+

Only if the location genuinely meets Google’s customer-facing requirements during stated hours. A sign alone does not turn a home office into a storefront.
